It is important to understand the structure of ACON, Pride in Diversity and AWEI.

Pride in Diversity is a business unit within ACON which operates a number of “Pride in” branded schemes. These schemes engage with organisations to provide cultural guidance, training and consulting services.

Structure of ACON, Pride in Diversity and AWEI

The original scheme is Pride in Diversity was started in 2010. It is a general-purpose scheme aimed at the majority of employers. Pride in Diversity currently has almost 300 members, each paying $6,000 per year to ACON. They employ 3 directors, 8 relationship managers and administrative staff.

Pride in Diversity operates the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI). The AWEI is the main way that ACON is able to influence member organisations.


Pride in Sport

Pride in Sport, launched in 2019, is aimed specifically at sporting organisations. There are 69 members including SportAus, Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Pride in Sport influenced the Guidelines for the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse people in sport.

Small community sporting organisations take guidance from the peak sporting bodies who are members of Pride in Sport.

Pride in Sport operates the Pride in Sport Index.

They maintain a ‘name and shame’ list of sporting bodies who have a dedicated policy on LGBTQ governance.


Pride in Health & Wellbeing

Pride in Health and Wellbeing was founded in 2017 to address the healthcare sector. There are 53 members, including Lifeline and Medibank.

Pride in Sport operates the Pride in Health and Wellbeing Index.
